On April 16th a crew took the Bird around the Battery, up the East River to Newtown Creek, and then down to the Navy Yard for our Brooklyn program. Marcel Dejean organized the row with Emily Travis, Hui Ding, Kate Sloss, Dave Clayton, and Sally Curtis as crew. The weather was lovely and Marcel timed the tides perfectly so the current carried the Bird & crew leisurely up the East River. The excitement came when a squall hit on the return to the Navy Yard with the west wind blowing Bird toward the bulkhead. Fortunately, the crew was up to the challenge and Bird arrived safely at the Navy Yard and was installed on the floating dock to be rowed by students at Benjamin Banneker Academy.
