Sunday Boatbuilding Update

By

Lorne Swarthout

On Sunday a spirited crew of boatbuilders completed the planking of the canoe hull. As the last sliver of red cedar was fitted in place a big cheer went up. We also epoxied the outside stems in place. What lies ahead is caressing this thin cedar egg shell to make it ready for glass cloth and epoxy resin. This clear finish will make the rich white-pink-tan-brown colors of the cedar pop. Boatbuilding will continue this Wednesday, Oct. 4, but there will be no canoe work on Sunday, Oct. 8
