Boatbuilding Update

On Wednesday we applied a third fill coat to the fiberglass on the hull. The fiber has now disappeared just about everywhere and I think we are ready to move on to the next step.

That step will be adding a robust gunwale strip to both sides of the hull.  There are two 3/4 x 1 3/4 x 28′ pine strips prepared for us to bend and clamp and screw and glue into place on Sunday.

That will be an inner gunwale, and it will be covered with a 1/4″ of mahogany later on. In the meantime, it will give a lot of stiffness to our eggshell hull when we lift it off.
