Annual NYS Safe Boating Course Report

We had a successful day and course!

VCB’s annual NYS Safe Boating Course on January 15th was beautifully hosted by the rowing club students of Borough of Manhattan Community College.

7 BMCC club members and one BMCC alumni earned NYS certificates as Safe Boaters!

9 Stuyvesant High School rowers and 6 Village Community Boathouse adults also attended and earned certificates.

The big screen, speakers, and laser pointer worked like a charm for our instructor Brendan Malone, whose boating experience, wisdom and knowledge alone would have kept everyone engaged and alert for the 8-hour marathon session!

Thanks to BMCC’s Learning Center, Media Center, and Buildings and Grounds department, the Richard Harris Terrace, a wonderful room, was comfortably heated and furnished. The club looks forward to preparing for their 2011 rowing season which begins in late April!

Boatbuilding Report 2011-01-16

Sunday Boatbuilding Report: We put the final touches on the dolly/cradle and moved furniture to make room for it in the shop. In preparation for flipping the boat, we first moved it off its frame and into the table. The boat was suprisingly light. Then we flipped it over onto the cradle. The crew immediately got to work cleaning up the seams and sanding the interior. Now decisions have to be made about frames.

We sanded the hull and the outwale. The cradle has morphed into a dolly and is almost complete. Dave & Henry “glassed” the stem.
