The frame is at the boathouse now. The plan is to clad it in fabric next week, and launch it shortly thereafter.

Boatbuilding 4-3-11


Thole pin risers were cut & glued onto the gunwale. Repair crew (Emily, Sally & Dave) replaced thole pin pads on GML and did some touch up painting in the bow around crack in the hull. Mary Nell & friends worked on repairing and prepping a rudder for painting.

Umiak Extraction


Rob Buchanan & his Lang students, Don Betts along with some VCB volunteers completed the Umiak in a week as promised and extracted it from the New School. Where’d it go?

Lang Umiakers

Rob Buchanan, Don Betts, students from Lang College along with some VCB volunteers are building an Umiak at the New School shop on 13th St. An Umiak is a traditional Native American “skin boat”. The boat is to be completed in one week and will be launched on Friday, 4/1 at Pier 40.
