Boatbuilding Report 2011-01-08

Dave and Rob put the starboard outwale on on Thursday, after cutting seven ‘darts’ into the sheer strake to fair the hull.

On Sunday, Sally, Nancy, Emily, John & Phil glued the outwale to the post side and cut some more darts. We painted the exposed end grain of all the plywood with epoxy paint. We sanded the starboard outwale. Karl did some work on the cradle.

We finished the cradle, its overdesigned & heavy but looks cool, could be mounted on wheels. Dave cut the bracing pieces.  Harry, Karl, Nancy, John, and Tony – looking authorative, assembled the thing.  Sally stoppped by took some pics and went to Partnership for Parks meeting.  12 Stuy boat builders showed up I got them sanding.  Some worked on the model of a whitehall.

Boatbuilding Report for Sunday, 1/2/11

Hans, Sally & Phil filled holes and and sanded the hull. Emily & Nancy planed and sanded the inwale, Karl built a cradle. Mary Nell worked on oars. We’re almost ready to flip her!

FYI- The cradle was built in anticipation of turning the boat over and placing it in the cradle. We will need at least 10 volunteers to do this.
